Mitosis/Meiosis Lab

Mitosis
  • Meristem behind the root cap (pro-cambium, ground meristem are primary meristems). Cell plate during cytokinesis.

  • Animal cells form cleavage furrow during cytokinesis.

    Meiosis

  • Spermatogonia (2N) in the outer layer (large, dark) mitosis -> primary spermatocytes (2N) further into the lumen. Meiosis I = secondary spermatocytes (smaller, lighter); meiosis II -> thin spermatids mature into motile sperm in lumen, though probably do not see many sperm in a slide.

  • Oogonia enlarge into primary follicles which contain a primary oocyte (2N) enclosed by follicle cells. Meiosis I -> secondary oocyte (1N, in a mature Graafian follicle) + polar body;
    (Q#3 says primary, should be secondary; also says 3000K primary, 300 ovulated) Theca cells secrete follicular fluid. Meiosis II is not completed until the secondary oocyte is penetrated by a sperm;
